Marcia Arrieta

Four collages & seven poems

observations of a pencil

the glass in the garden the years in paintings the owl in the forest the key in the desk
laundry & collage the cradle in the garage the shoes by the river the books by the bed

I am looking to retreat

I wake up in a translation     the symphony is a novel I will never compose

everything is at risk    storms exist   the typewriter is a tree   the cricket a canto

the umbra

scarcely an interrogatory the zinnia & quail
to qualify the moderate in upheaval the ghost tree speaks
to the garden sculpture & the path opens to the mountains

resiliency

crushed flowers   the serenity prayer   unplanned journeys—Yeats, Joyce, Proust—
cartography of the imagination         stars        ancient woods

loosely woven

perilune:   the point in the path of a body orbiting the moon
that is nearest to the center of the moon

a hedgehog reads

the dog protects the chess pieces

eagle bison sunflower

the island in summer    identity the earth & sky & water    intensified the word & mind
restless syllable    the shire     the rhythm beyond resignation

“Read seeds, not twigs.”
—Ezra Pound

the muse in time
