Jeff Harrison

These fires

These fires I once caught up in my hands, smoothing them, counting them as already smoothed; and here I am a straw, a hart.

Upon this cypress

My forepaw upon this cypress — my hoof; your pardon, hounds; though I may as well have a forepaw as a hoof — you may as well be wolves as my hounds; yes, wolves, for all that you pardon — my hoof upon this cypress, Actaeon again stands upright. Can you not say, Actaeon again stands upright, nor, what hart would display thus?

Actaeon's fellows

Could I wind a horn, who hears me; and hearing, who comes? Actaeon's fellows, will they hasten to my side? What are Actaeon's fellows to a hart? Even more, I imagine, than a hart to Actaeon's fellows. And is there danger to any than Actaeon? I wouldn't have this befall another, though I remain for aye the nonesuch hart.
