The World and Actaeon
A hart, they say. I'd take a hart, gratefully. From this to a hart would be making my way to Actaeon. This, oh this, but I am Actaeon still, and would rather be a lion, say, or even a hart, and have the world think me this, by all the world scorned as this, than remain this — this, and Actaeon still! — and have the world say Actaeon, the hart.

Witness
Isn't Actaeon the first, isn't Actaeon the first of his kind? The rest are tales — another Actaeon! I scoff. Actaeon become a hart I can attest; I have witnessed. Actaeon the first of his kind? Pardon me — I, the first to ask pardon in all this — there is only Actaeon.

The Hill of the Hounds
They will bury me with their own, at the Hill of the Hounds — another indignity for Actaeon — an indignity for a hart, Actaeon aside. Had they set Actaeon aside from a hart, would I rest at the Hill? An indignity for a hart, the Hill — a hart's first indignity — and another covering, another stratum atop Actaeon.
