PALMENHAUS A Visitor's Guide Central Pavilion Having purchased your ticket, you go in, till all the leaves wrap round, till you're in yet another outside. South Pavilion & in the hothouse tropics, each flower's a Chihulian fancy. & in the fevery steam, you look in circles for the door. North Pavilion But in the coldhouse, the dampness always drips. & as there is little terra firma in mud, you're already elsewhere. |
AT ATTERSEE
As seen from the dock [cropped out of the picture]: rippled tones in the lake bottom sand, but so framed as to be without a shore. I wanted to paint this, but not explain it away by calling it "Infinity"——and then the light shifts, and one goes on to paint something different (for instance, the giant poplar protecting the church). Though it seems that often what I wish to paint's already painted, because the mood's already there, and despite me.
