Anna Ryan-Punch

Blot

Sort our feelings out
Monogram them in cursive
‘His’ and ‘Hers’

Wine-blank faces
You have to touch and tell me
Touch and tell

Sentences bump
Boats in rough harbours
Choppy and drunk on tongues

Count up our sorrows
Divide them by beer
Empties in the recycling

An affinity with pigeons

born of scuttling feet
awkward Jagger strut.
Eyes never quite in time
one side of the head looks
off-beat, each one blinks.
Arrhythmia of crumbs
beneath pink candy feet
prehistoric breast ruffles
and beaded lice trims.
Shared, a park orchestral
pecked sharp and syncopated
plucked accidental crusts.

Anna Ryan-Punch's previous publications include poetry in Southerly, Westerly, Antipodes, The Age, Quadrant, Island, and Overland.
