My hounds are upon me‏
My hounds behave as though I were a hart, and when I beheld the bather I felt as though I would soon be a hart; am I to say, by hounds and by bather, Actaeon is a hart? The sun is above me, it is day; my hounds are upon me — am I, then, a hart? I have seen the modest, and have left them for the chase; my hounds did not behave as though I were a hart; by the bather, then, and her modesty, Actaeon is a hart?

Actaeon departs
My image in the bourne bewrays me to Artemis, and I am the picture of the hart who bears me away.

At table
My hounds are at table; they do not abhor the hart. I, Actaeon and the hart, abhor the hart as strongly as they will long for Actaeon.

Actaeon throughout
Hounds, and also curs? Actaeon, and also a hart? Actaeon, a prince, a youth, a hunter — Actaeon, and Actaeon throughout. From whelps to — what would you have us now, curs? — from whelps to curs, we are hounds throughout, and that hart, would you have him Actaeon now, Actaeon, and Actaeon throughout?
