Offshore, tides receding


   I.

Worked systematically,
                one side to the other,

Matter of sound,
during an average summer.

Rock spiders, visible tens of metres.
heard, rowing between buoys, too far out.

Aspirants, not a direct answer,
                between rocks and shore,

cast onto the skerries,
                seals shed their skins.

Next line, well spoken,
                shouldn't go on.

   II.

Struck several mast threads, cultural theory.
                Silence draws groupings of tokens.

Halfway down the escarpment,
                Unexplained appearance at Johnsmas.

Precious difference between worlds,
                concessions and optimism
or
Sediment decanted onto a rose garden.

   III.

This is the morning of the third day.
                Sea adds lustre to the stone frigate.

Salute or withdraw.
                (Lowering of heads.)

   IV.

                Torrential downpour, ivory gavel,
Slipway, arms and armour.

Columns of black smoke,
                anxiety in a voice, rather fractious.

   V.

Return, avidly striding
                through windows,
Motionless, still.



Mace carriers, majesty

Gentler episode lead to a fugue,
fluid and continuous, pen moving at great speed,
concerto grosso. Last movement, missed
the entire rippling passage, part by part,
motifs repeated, transposed designs.

Letters ill-shaped,
hand grown tired.

Still sleeping right through the ages.

Rapport, deep sound, beautifully executed solo.

Keep practising. Presumably they all went home,
or are leaving shortly.

Steinway is imitating a cembalo,
cryptic graphs. Mace carriers, majesty.

Great awareness leads to principal theme,
dissonant chords amongst strings.

Fragments of snare drum,
                tone poems from sources,
Music fixed, equal phrases.

Take notice, identify synonyms.

Remained after the magnetic field was removed,
put up an argument, enough for a photograph.
Still life, unconverted. A new book, same title.

otherwise seamless.

                Starting here,
                                              moving away.

Complexities, same ideas, return again.

Couldn't grasp the implied cultural demand,
misidentified, elegantly structured reasoning.

Calligraphy,
suitable for adverbial adjustment,
scales dipped in quicksilver,
detailed existence,
accidentals,
a glide in test flight,
Constancy.
