Norman Abjorensen

DEFENCELESS

Naked, defences stripped away,
I wait for you, unprepared
and unknowing.

Pale in a white room
counting the flashes
from the distant lighthouse
beating like a pulse.

Merging slowly into the confines
of my captivity, ceasing even to think,
no longer feeling. Existing – just.

It blinks as I stare unseeing.

Piecing the moments
together, unpatterned.

Norman Abjorensen is a writer and academic. He has recently returned from working in Japan and now lives outside Canberra.
